Bible Soundtracks was created by Bradley Lambert. It's purpose is two-fold: to be a resource for finding the Bible passages that relate to themes in popular music, and to be a resource for finding popular music selections that align with Bible passages.
Songs are categorized by genre and each song is linked with one or more verses of scripture. Visitors can browse song listing by style or read scripture passages that are annotated with references to relevant songs.
Click the Recommend button to add a song. After you enter the artist and song name, you will be asked to supply relevant scripture references. Keep each reference to one or two verses. Songs must appear in the Apple's iTunes catalog to be added to Bible Soundtracks.
The World English Bible (WEB) is a public domain modern english translation of the Bible based on the American Standard Version first published in 1901. Most other commonly-used versions (NIV, HCSB, CEB, NASB, etc.) are copyright protected works, meaning that permission must be obtained from the book's publisher to quote the scripture. We believe you should be free to quote, publish, print and share the Bible as much as you want. With the World English Bible you are able to do just that.
While the songs are screened before appearing on the site, the intent is to avoid making judgements about individual artists or the sins in their lives. If the message in the song supports a Christian worldview, then you will probably find it on the site.
Although I respect those that share this viewpoint, I'm not willing to make that categorical determination on behalf of other believers. As a baptist, I think all believers have the liberty and the duty to decide for themselves whether something is good or evil. See: priesthood of the believer, soul competency, discernment.
The book of Hebrews talks about discernment and "growing up" so that your spiritual diet is more than only milk. "But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil." (Hebrews 5:14) I believe that music is an important tool of the Holy Spirit and one that can help us "practice," and hone our spiritual discernment.
